I do cherish this quietness. I love to be still and just watch. My sister Aimee and I were joking a few days ago about how she can't go anywhere alone, and I "often take myself on dates" because I just love to be quiet. Weird, I know. It's not that I always want to be alone--I just love the peacefilled silence and my times alone because I am not alone. Jesus is always beside us. The ever Faithful, quiet hand leading us beside still waters, restoring our souls.
My dad has a hobby. Birds. Lots of birds. He loves to watch them and feed them, carefully placing each feeding dish within eyesight of his chair inside. He may not be standing at the feeder, but he always has his eye on them. Even when the snow is pouring out of the sky, tons of little chirpies flutter all around because they know there is food there for them. Rain, sleet or shine. When our cats begin to prowl, we are all on guard. Dad is quick to run to the window if it looks like one of the birds are in trouble...or even suddenly dash out the door to scare off any predators.
Today, as I sat watching the lil' birdies hop around even in the snow, it was kind of a sweet reminder of the constant love of Jesus Christ towards His own flock. Watching them--Cardinals with their red feathers standing boldly out against the dark brown of the leaf barren trees, tiny Chickadees bouncing around like Oreo colored ping-pongs, small humble brown Sparrows patiently waiting their turn--Jesus cares for us just as my father cares for his feathered friends. Always watching for any sign of them, carefully pouring out fresh feed so little beaks don't have to get frozen digging around in the snow, always watching out for silent predators. Not necessarily hovering over them while they peck away at what they have been given, but present. Always present. What's more, is the at the birds hop around cheerfully and expectantly. They know they will be provided for and it is just a matter of time before the man with the cup full of seed comes and pours it out before them. They know.
"I know all the Birds of the hills,
and all that moves in the mountains is Mine."
(Psalm 50:11)
Whom have you placed your trust in? The One who actually does take care of little birds who have short lives, or do you choose to hold on to worry, anxiety and fear? Do you have turmoil in relationships? Crushing strain over financial problems? Health issues that you are just so tired of even talking about?
Fly to Jesus, dear heart. Perch near the Master. Cast (throw, fling, catapult, etc.) your needs, your worry, your anxiety, your desires, your hope, your relationship, and even yourself before Him at His feet. He has called you His own. :) Trust Him, serve Him and wait in expectation of Him to come to you. He always does.
Under His Wings.
